The pedal steel bends notes and blends chords in ways that no other instrument can. While it’s a regular feature of American country bands, the pedal steel seldom features in local bands mainly because of its technical demands. It’s an anchor of the Nashville sound, and certainly one of Harvest Moon’s own signature sounds.
Featuring six accomplished musicians, Harvest Moon plays a dazzling array of instruments during their two-hour show. Aside from the pedal steel, mandolin, accordion, piano, dobro, banjo, and an array of acoustic and electric guitars all feature in the line-up. The band also likes to feature rich vocal harmonies in their song portfolio.
Harvest Moon plays a range of ever-popular Americana classics from legendary singer/songwriters including Dwight Yoakam, Buddy Miller, Vince Gill, John Prine, Ry Cooder and Little Feat. There’s even a taste of British thrown in with occasional Rolling Stones and Beatles covers.
The band, with its unique combination of visual spectacle, musical performance, timeless songs, all spiced with humour and fun, has a solid following of fans in the Wellington/ Kapiti / Wairarapa regions. Harvest Moon promises a point of difference to Taranaki country music afficionados.
