Mike Taylor – Trumpet
Mike is an in-demand trumpet player based in Wellington. He recently returned from a second stint in the USA. On his first stint he earned his master in music from the prestigious Manhattan School of Music in New York City. He has toured extensively, playing around the world and recorded on many albums, including Tūī award-winning Jazz Albums of the Year and platinum-selling albums as well as being nominated for a Latin-Jazz Grammy.
Andre Paris – Sax
Andre has been involved in the Wellington music scene as a freelance saxophonist, teacher and arranger. He has performed in numerous concerts and festivals around the country covering a wide range of musical styles including jazz, blues, orchestral, musicals, pop, salsa and reggae. Some notable highlights include performing with the NZSO as part of their Gershwin concert series, being a part of feature acts in the Tauranga and Nelson Jazz Festivals and national tours with the Wellington Jazz Orchestra and Royal NZ Air Force Band.
Leonardo Coghini – Keys
Wellington based Leonardo Coghini is a young man but is already one of New Zealand's most outstanding musicians. An extraordinary (pianist) composer and bandleader in his own right, Leonardo is fast making a name for himself and along with Alistair Isdale is part of Blair Latham ensemble Fire Waltz who were selected for the 2024 SOUNZ Jazz Recording Project.
Alistair Isdale – Bass
Operations manager at the Royal New Zealand Air Force, and conductor of the RNZAF Jazz Orchestra. He has worked with Bella Kololo as producer and musician along with fellow performers Darren Mathiassen and Andres Paris. Alistair is also part of Blair Latham ensemble Fire Waltz who were selected for the 2024 SOUNZ Jazz Recording Project.
Darren Mathiassen – Drums
Darren is a drummer hailing from the deep south. A well-known session drummer, he is currently on the throne for live drum'n'bass heavyweights Shapeshifter, eclectic roots power groovers Kora, the crème de la crème of Kiwi soul sisters Deva Mahal, Hollie Smith, Zoe Moon, and Bella Kalolo, as well as indigenous hitmaker, Rob Ruha and The Witch Doctor. His talents see him traverse the globe, performing anywhere from jazz clubs to theatres, arenas, and the raddest music festivals.
